Melanie Hills

Arriving first by yacht as the setting sun cast a golden light on Port Abercrombie’s cliffs; Melanie fell in love with Aotea/ Great Barrier Island and stayed for over five years. It’s a place which touches the soul and lingers in your heart. Creatively she is inspired by the natural and living world around her and has a particular love of the dynamics of colour. Initially she started making jewellery as a creative outlet that worked well in a small living space and as a way to make jewellery pieces for herself. Predominantly she uses sterling silver, glass and semi-precious gems and incorporates recycled and found objects. She has been drawn to photography since her early teens and enjoys uniting colour, composition and technical skills. Her greatest pleasure is in capturing the everyday world and giving it a unique voice and platform. Her cards offer a way for her to share her images and continue to explore and develop her photography.
